Holidays to South Mauritius with If Only

The south of Mauritius has remained relatively untouched, with a dramatically different landscape to the rest of the island. Nature lovers will enjoy exploring the beautiful surroundings, with high cliffs, rugged coastlines and stunning waterfalls just waiting to be discovered in Black River Gorges National Park. Some of the island's most picture perfect beaches can be found on the southern trip, including Gris Gris, where a break in the coral reef lets the waves crash onto the rocks, and Blue Bay, one of the best snorkelling spots in Mauritius.

Highlights

Local Produce

Nestled in the hillside plantations of Chamarel, in the south west of Mauritius, and surrounded by acres of sugarcane plantations, the eco-friendly Rhumerie de Chamarel provides a behind the scenes look at the rum making process. Sugarcane plants are handpicked and fermented before being distilled into the unique Mauritian rum that can be sampled and purchased at the end of the tour.

Discover Mahébourg

Discover Mahébourg

The charming town of Mahébourg is packed full of traditional markets, mouthwatering street food, beautiful beaches and fascinating museums, offering an insight into local life. This once busy port, named after one of the most successful governors of the French period, home to both the biggest lagoon and the oldest biscuit factory in Mauritius.

Explore the Seven Coloured Earths

The striking Seven Coloured Earths, one of Mauritius' main tourist attractions, is a small area of sand dunes made up of seven different colours (blue, brown, green, purple, red, violet and yellow) which formed through the conversion of basaltic lava to clay minerals. Since the dunes were first exposed rains have carved beautiful patterns into them, although never eroding them, creating a magical meringue effect.
