Highlights

Diriyah

Just outside of Riyadh lies the birthplace of the Kingdom of Saudi, Diriyah. Founded in 1446, it symbolises the beauty, generosity and resilience of the nation and all its people. Once an ancient pilgrimage and trading route, offering an ideal meeting spot for people travelling to or from Africa, Asia, or Europe, it remains a fascinating spot to visit. Step back in time and uncover the UNESCO World Heritage mud-brick city of Al-Turaif, where you can walk in the footsteps of Arabian royalty through hidden alleyways, before spending time at the extensive museum. Whilst here, be sure to visit the range of other museums, luxury hotels, restaurants, shopping, entertainment options and more!

Saudi National Museum

Saudi National Museum

Set out on a journey through Saudi’s fascinating history at the Saudi National Museum in Riyadh, home to nearly 4,000 mesmerising artefacts and antiquities. Housed within striking modernist architecture and beautiful gardens, the museum exhibits everything from pre-historic skeletons and desert meteorites, to documents from the founding of the modern kingdom. Visitors can also enjoy an enthralling interactive tour tracing the country’s past and exhibits on the birth and rise of Islam.

Al Masmak Fortress

With a rich history dating back to 1865, visitors to Riyadh can visit the fascinating Al Masmak Fortress. A vast clay and mud-brick citadel that witnessed the birth of a kingdom, Al Masmak Fortress was conquered by King Abdulaziz back in 1903 when he took control of Riyadh. From this fortress, he conquered and united the different kingdoms and provinces that make up the modern Saudi nation. Today, the beautifully resorted fortress houses a museum that offers guests the opportunity to step back in time and explore Saudi Arabia’s roots.

Shopping and Souqs

From ancient winding souqs to luxury malls and quirky boutiques, Riyadh sets the standard for a destination shopping city. Don’t miss a trip to the labyrinthine alleys of Souq Al Zal, where since 1901, local merchants have sold everything from quirky handicrafts and handmade carpets to gold coins and a weekly auction. For a more modern retail experience, Riyadh Park Mall features an IMAX cinema and various designer shops beneath its wave-like glass roof, whilst other options include the towering skyscraper Kingdom Centre and the open-air modern mall, The Zone.
