On arrival in Beijing Daxing or Beijing Capital Airport, you will be met in the arrival hall by your local guide and/or National Escort from Wendy Wu Tours. Together with all other group members who may be arriving at a similar time, you will transfer approximately 1-hour to your hotel. 

Enjoy your first night at leisure before the Wonder of China tour starts tomorrow.

Enjoy your first day at your own pace in Beijing.

The capital of the People’s Republic of China, with its unequalled wealth of history, Beijing served as the centre for the many different empires and cultures that ruled China. It has been the heart of politics and society throughout its long history. The ancient monuments, stories of days gone by, and the dynamic, modern city Beijing has become today, make it a destination not to be missed.

An informal Welcome Dinner will be held on Day 2. Late arrivals will receive a box dinner.

This morning, head to Beijing's symbolic heart, Tiananmen Square, and stroll into the sprawling magnificence of the Forbidden City. Entering through the Gate of Supreme Harmony, you will find a complex full of imperial riches. Take a leisurely stroll through the narrow alleys of the warren-like hutongs and learn more about living in this traditional area. Later, soak up the harmonious ambience of the Temple of Heaven, an orderly oasis in a bustling urban landscape. This evening, sit down to a traditional dinner of Peking duck.

This morning is dedicated to China's most iconic sight – the Great Wall. Taking a walk on this incredible structure is the best way to appreciate both the wall itself and the dramatic scenery that it crosses. You will then have an opportunity to visit a jade factory, where you have the opportunity to buy a small handcrafted piece. Jade is revered throughout China, it is said to bring fortune and prosperity to those who wear it. Enjoy the afternoon strolling through the idyllic gardens of the Summer Palace and admire the traditional Chinese landscapes and exquisite architecture.

Board the bullet train to Xian, the ancient former capital. Take a walking tour of the narrow and winding streets of the lively Muslim Quarter, a street food and knick-knack heaven, and gain an insight into the city's fascinating culture and significance as the start of the Silk Road. In the evening, enjoy a dumpling feast and Tang Dynasty dancing show.

After their fortuitous discovery in the 1970s, the Terracotta Army of China's first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, has intrigued visitors ever since. Spend the morning viewing the enigmatic ranks of life-sized warriors and visit the workshop to see where they are intricately recreated. Later, stroll on the beautifully preserved 14th-century city walls that encircle Xian's old town, before rounding off the day with a refreshing beer tasting at a local brewery.

Transfer to the airport and take a 1-and-a-half-hour flight to Yichang. Upon arrival, transfer to Maoping docks and board the Century Oasis which will take you on an amazing journey up China’s Yangtze River for the next 4-nights. Enjoy dinner onboard this evening. The ship remains docked overnight at the port.

Visit the Three Gorges Dam, the world’s largest hydroelectric dam, and marvel at this incredible feat of engineering. Disembark the ship and take a scenic 45 minute drive (please note that the coach is not permitted to take photo stops) to the viewing area above the ship locks, where you will be able to appreciate the immense scale of this monumental project. Explore a small museum and a lookout point for further insight into its construction and impact on the region. This excursion includes approximately one hour of walking. Return to the ship for lunch and begin cruising through Xiling Gorge, the longest and deepest of the Three Gorges. This evening enjoy the Captain’s Welcome Reception (smart-casual dress is required).

Transfer to smaller vessels for a relaxing 2.5-hour excursion through the Shennv Stream. Though narrower than the Three Gorges, these dramatic waterways offer equally as impressive scenery. There is no walking involved on this shore excursion, however you will need to get on and off the boat without assistance. Reboard the cruise ship for lunch prepare for breathtaking vistas as you pass through Wu and Qutang gorges. Wu Gorge is known for its quiet beauty, with forest-covered mountains and towering cliffs, while Qutang Gorge, the shortest and narrowest, captivates with its sheer rock faces and dramatic landscapes. Take a 3-hour afternoon shore excursion to White Emperor City, or relax onboard. This evenings entertainment is a crew cabaret and talent show.

Start your beautiful day with morning tea and coffee at the bar. You can practice Tai Chi with a professional trainer on the sun deck. After breakfast, enjoy leisure time at your discretion and participate in a variety of onboard activities to make the most of your day. After lunch, take an excursion to Fengdu Ghost City (approximately 2.5 hours), renowned for its ghost culture and the integration of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. Sightseeing is on foot at a leisurely pace.

Check out of your cabin early this morning and disembark in Chongqing. Visit Chongqing Zoo’s Panda House before boarding the speedy bullet train 5-hours to Guilin.

Take a relaxed 4-hour cruise along the Li River to the charming village of Yangshuo, where you will spend 1 night. Around every river bend is a view to take your breath away as jagged peaks loom over rural scenes of lush greenery, grazing buffalos and local fishermen. These are small cruise boats usually holding approximately 100 passengers; with an enclosed dining area on the lower deck and an open viewing area on the upper deck. Usually, the boats depart at 9am from the dock located a 1-hour drive from your hotel. However, when the river level is low they depart from further downstream which would mean a longer drive and an earlier check-out from your hotel.

Disembarking from the cruise, your Local Guide will walk with you to your hotel, approximately a 30-minute walk from the river. There are electric carts offered by private vendors which can be organised at your own cost. In Yangshuo, visit the local markets.

After Hours Experience: For those seeking extra excitement this evening, you may wish to see the Sanjie Liu Night Show, an open-air show which is directed by Zhang Yimou, the creator of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony (time and weather permitting, payable locally).

Yangshuo sits in an exquisite rural location, surrounded by landscapes of emerald-green paddy fields and dramatic limestone karsts. Spend the morning exploring the countryside before returning to Guilin by road, stopping en route to discover the colourful stalagmites and stalactites of Reed Flute Cave. Later, enjoy a leisurely stroll around Ronghu Lake and admire the Sun and Moon Pagodas.

This morning, fly just over 2 hours to the exuberant city of Shanghai for a 2-night stay. In the evening, view the city from the Huangpu River on a panoramic cruise.

The Huangpu River flows through the centre of Shanghai and separates the city into Pudong, meaning ‘east of the Huangpu’ and Puxi, ‘west of the Huangpu’. Cruising down the river, you will see the contrast of the historical Bund architecture on one side of the river with the modern Pudong skyline on the other side. At night, the banks of the Huangpu light up, turning Shanghai into a neon wonder.

Arrive into Hong Kong International Airport where you will be transferred to Harbour Grand Kowloon for the next three nights.

Hong Kong, once a colonial gateway to China, Hong Kong is a fusion of east and west. This vibrant, fast-paced, dazzling, bustling and incredibly exciting city embraces both the old and the new. It's a brash, buccaneering city that delights the visitor and provides surprises with its countless contradictions. Over the next couple of days opt to head to the night markets or artisan stores to buy souvenirs from your trip. For foodie lovers, immserse yourself in one of the world's top culinary capitals trying local cuisine.
