The Birds, Bears & Belugas Safari combines the thrill of beluga whale watching with Churchill Wild’s signature on-the-ground summer polar bear encounters. Set against a backdrop of tundra alive with wildflowers and abundant fauna, this is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that is as diverse as it is unforgettable. Beyond belugas and bears, you may encounter caribou, Arctic fox, wolves, moose and an astonishing variety of bird life with keen birders often spotting over 100 species during their stay. Keep your ears tuned too, as the haunting calls of wolves and other sub-Arctic wildlife echo across this extraordinary wilderness. Just 60 kilometres by air from Churchill, Manitoba, Seal River Heritage Lodge will be your welcoming home for this extraordinary week. Situated in the heart of the Polar Bear and Beluga Whale Capital of the World, it offers front-row access to one of nature’s greatest gatherings. Each summer, thousands of belugas return to the sheltered waters of Hudson Bay to calve, while polar bears roam the coastline and vast flocks of migratory birds fill the skies. Here, the wildlife isn’t just nearby it’s quite literally on your doorstep.

Enjoy a relaxing stay at, The Grand by Lakeview Winnipeg Airport. Dinner will be held at the hotel, where you will meet your group and your adventure specialist. You will need your rest for your early morning departure to Churchill.

place DAY 2 - Winnipeg to Churchill – Seal River Heritage Lodge

Winnipeg to Churchill – Seal River Heritage Lodge

Arrive in Churchill by air, where an expert member of the team will meet you at the airport and provide instructions for your morning transfers. Your adventure begins with an aerial flight along the winding Hudson Bay coast to Seal River Heritage Lodge, your home for the next six days. From the air, observe pods of whales, flocks of birds, and the region’s iconic polar bears, often seen swimming or resting near the water’s edge in the Seal River Estuary, a summer stronghold for these magnificent creatures. After lunch, embark on your first coastal exploration, ensure cameras are ready to capture the remarkable scenery and wildlife. Evenings at the lodge include appetizer hour followed by a signature dinner, often accompanied by an informative lecture or slide presentation delivered by one of Churchill Wild’s knowledgeable guides.

Tundra Trekking, Polar Bears and Wildlife

After breakfast, choose between a marine tour or a guided hike along the coast. Lunch is typically served back at the lodge, unless your guides lead an ATV excursion further along the shoreline. Marine tours are tide-dependent, and mealtimes may be adjusted to ensure optimal whale-watching opportunities. In the evening, relive the day’s highlights during appetizer hour before enjoying a carefully prepared dinner. Following the meal, relax with a presentation or lecture delivered by one of Churchill Wild’s expert guides. Bedtime is at your leisure, but wildlife encounters continue around the lodge throughout the night. Be prepared for a potential visit from a polar bear or a spectacular display of the Northern Lights.

Churchill - Winnipeg

After a final hearty breakfast at the lodge, begin air transfers back to Churchill. Keep your cameras ready, as the return flight offers excellent opportunities for striking aerial photographs.

Once in Churchill, spend the day exploring the town and surrounding area with one of our knowledgeable guides. Discover its rich history as a seaport and former military base, with stops including the Parks Canada exhibit, Itsanitaq Museum, and the Polar Bear Jail. Along the way, admire the vibrant murals commissioned in 2016 as part of the SeaWalls mural festival. Before a group dinner, enjoy some free time to browse Churchill’s unique gift stores for last-minute souvenirs.

This evening, board your flight south to Winnipeg, where you will collect your bags and transfer to The Grand by Lakeview.
