Once a British artillery outpost, this luxury Singapore hideaway is housed in a conserved colonial building and boasts an undeniable charm. Built in 1904, the beautifully revitalised hotel affords guests with a choice of 40 atmospheric suites, brimming with natural tones, modern facilities, complimentary WiFi, and leather-accented furnishings, along with an indulgent rain shower and use of the resort’s two 30-metre lap pools. Facilities include an interactive children’s play pool, waterside yoga, and a relaxing Lazy River ride, available at the hotel’s nearby sister properties, along with the stylish rooftop pool and bar. Days are best started with a poolside yoga session, before taking in the history of the building over a Champagne Afternoon Tea. Being in the tropics and hot and humid, there isn’t a particular season that’s better for sightseeing in Singapore, with fairly consistent weather year round and not much of a difference between the wet season and the slightly drier summer season. In May and June, the heat is at its peak and there may be haze from the forest clearing fires in Sumatra.
