A stay at the Crown offers the best of both worlds with modern studios and apartments but also the chance to revel in a little Art Deco heritage with a stay in one of the original heritage suites. The contemporary studios and suites are light, bright, and airy spaces designed with the guest in mind. All have sun-dappled private decks, underfloor heating, and plenty of space in which to relax. The heritage suites offer the timeless sophistication and elegance of the Art Deco era with original features such as Juliet balconies and ornate windows and an authentic décor that has stepped straight from the heady days of the roaring twenties.

Napier is renowned for some truly excellent local restaurants and working in association with the Crown Hotel, Milk & Honey offers hotel guests the opportunity to charge back to their room or enjoy room service. This bright and breezy restaurant overlooks the water and offers an interesting menu of casually elegant dishes that have more than a nod to the Orient about them. Think steamed bao bun with tempura fish or crispy pork crudo with local seafood and DanDan noodles, whole crispy fish, or twice-cooked pork. It’s a mouth-watering menu of deliciousness. There is also a wealth of dining options close by, overlooking the historic fishing wharf.

The opportunities for entertainment are endless in this pretty waterfront setting, just a short distance from the centre of Napier. A fleeting stroll from the hotel is a historic wharf, now home to a multitude of cafes, restaurant, bars, art galleries and boutiques overlooking the water. Discover the National Aquarium of New Zealand, stretching along the marine parade in Napier like a giant stingray, and there’s also a swimming beach. Further afield there are the exceptional wineries and vineyards of Hawkes Bay to explore, either with a local guide or under your own steam, or head to Cape Kidnappers and see the largest gannet colony in the world.

The Crown Hotel lends itself perfectly to taking your exercise routine outdoors with a waterfront setting that winds its way along the wharf. Head out for a gentle walk or a more invigorating jog or run, with the Pacific Ocean as your backdrop. For those who prefer to keep their workout gym focused the hotel offers a fitness room/gymnasium with a range of cardio machines with treadmills, exercise bikes and cross trainers as well as free weights and weight training equipment. There’s even covered bicycle storage for guests who have hired a bike on their travels. The region is renowned for its cycling trails, particularly through the wineries and vineyards.

Although New Zealand is great to visit all year round, the beaches of the North Island are particularly inviting during the summer months (December to February). The weather cools slightly between March and May making this the ideal time to hike some of the North Island's fantastic trails, while winter and spring (June to November) are much quieter.
