Encircled by tropical seas teeming with marine life these two tiny islands are linked by a footbridge and offer a truly idyllic and very natural experience. This is a place where luxury and sustainability go hand in hand and where there is a very deep sense of connection with the environment. Built with sustainability in mind Song Saa lives and breathes with nature. Local hands built the resort using local materials creating a truly heavenly, private island experience. 27 villas come with jungle views, ocean panoramas or, unusually for this part of the world, perched on stilts over the ocean and sit in perfect harmony with the environment. Rustic timbers, driftwood and thatched roofs only enhance the feeling of desert island-luxe, and all have private pools and blissful ocean views. All-inclusive rates ensure all meals, snack and drinks are taken care of whether you’re dining on the breezy waterfront of the Vista Bar and Restaurant, watching the sunset from an over-sized bean bag with a cocktail in hand in beachside Driftwood, or indulging in a private in-villa experience. The islands may be small, but they are perfectly formed and the abundance of experiences available is quite astonishing. Explore the secret coves and hidden bays by sea kayak or pull on your mask and flippers and head beneath the waves for a snorkelling adventure. On dry land there are island safaris, yoga classes and conservation experiences to enjoy.

If Robinson Crusoe did desert island luxury it would look like this. Sun-bleached timbers, gnarled driftwood and thatched roofs encase villas of pure indulgence. Jungle Villas look over the jungle canopy to the sea beyond and boast sun decks with a private pool, canopied day bed and indulgent open-air shower - families will love the two-bedroom version. Ocean View villas offer magnificent ocean vistas whilst those who like to be close to the water should pick one of the over water villas which come with one bedroom or two. The Royal Villa is however the ultimate experience, with two bedrooms, sun dappled, breezy terrace and a huge pool.

The attention to dining is as strong as anything else on the island and features fresh, organic ingredients from the resort gardens and seafood from local villages, dressing up is not required and shoes are optional. Vista Bar is an open-sided, thatched roof pavilion where you’ll find local delicacies alongside western dishes, whilst Driftwood is a beautiful beach bar featuring oversize bean bags on the sand where you can relax and watch the incredible sunsets. Song Saa is also renowned for its destination dining which you can enjoy in myriad locations across the islands, or perhaps just kick back with a movie night experience in your villa, popcorn included.

Song Saa invites guests to be as active or relaxed as they choose and there are a wealth of activities and experiences to help you on your way. Snorkelling, sea kayaking, island safaris, morning yoga, treasure hunts and conservation village visits are all included, as is diving for qualified divers. If you’re looking for something a little less active why not have the resort set your villa up for a movie night. They’ll set up a private cinema just for you, featuring the movie of your choice and popcorn comes as standard.

Wellbeing at Song Saa comes in the wonderful form of the ‘spa with no walls’. Rather than in one central location, here spa treatments are carried out in tranquil sanctuaries, tucked into the lush landscape and dotted across the island. The spa philosophy is inspired by the Buddhist tradition of metta bhavana, or to cultivate loving kindness and the practice of respect and blessings to all. This will be a spa session unlike any other and the Night Spa is a particularly memorable experience. Private yoga sessions and personal trainers can also be arranged for guests.

From November to January, Cambodia's weather is similar to that experienced during a Mediterranean summer. It's the most popular time to visit and becomes busy over Christmas and New Year. From February to April, temperatures and humidity rise before the rainy season (May to September) when short, heavy showers that rarely last all day make the country bloom.
