Taken from the Zulu word for ‘healer’, this is a real sanctuary where peace and tranquillity are a given and you have all the time in the world to reconnect and unwind. This adult only retreat offers wonderful views, expansive spaces in which to relax, and with just six exceptional suites, privacy is guaranteed. The thoughtful design is modern take on African safari meets Australian outback and incorporates stunning pieces of art, contrasting textures, and intricate fabrics. A sublime infinity pool offers cool respite during the heat of the day whilst inclusive dining comes courtesy of Restaurant Amara, showcasing innovative cuisine with produce from the Hawkesbury region. Dream

Six suites sit in harmony with the surrounding bush and have their own unique personalities and story to tell. The Lodge Suites are found within the main lodge building overlooking the natural bushland and gardens. Luxury Bush Suites are totally private, surrounded by gums with just the Lyrebirds for company, the wood burning fireplace is complemented by indoor/outdoor living and a private deck. The sensational Escarpment Suites overlook the forest canopy, whilst the unique Tent Suites, complete with chandelier and a freestanding bathtub take the experience to the next level. For the ultimate however the multi-level Chief Suite boasts panoramic views which reach to Sydney, and a private plunge pool.

All meals are included at Sangoma, and dining takes place in the exceptional Amara Restaurant. The approach is sustainable, organic, unfussy, and in this most natural of environments, is an homage to nature. Meals are created using the best produce available from a community supported project in the Hawkesbury with a strong regional focus. Expect the finest vegetables to be the hero of the plate, but carnivores need to not be concerned for dishes are also complemented by sustainably sourced meats and fish. Lunch and dinner are known in-house as the ‘chefs harvest experience’ and like everything else at Sangoma, are exceptional.

Spicers Sangoma is an intimate and luxurious bush camp and the experiences available range from calming and restful with forays into wine and watercolour painting classes, eco printing works shops and chocolate, cheese, and wine pairing, to adrenalin fuelled adventures including private abseiling, rock climbing and canyoning. If you want to explore the beautiful Blue Mountains, then the rocks to rainforest eco tour is a wonderful 4WD tour taking you off the beaten track. Alternatively, join one of the private hiking tours that will keep you far away from the crowds that flock to the mountains, but also reveal the national park in all its glory.

Spa Anise, the beautiful and boutique spa offering at Spicers Sangoma, is a little slice of heaven in the foothills of the Blue Mountains. Treatments and therapies are inspired by the magic and healing powers of the Australian bush and feature a choice of spa rituals, one of which can be taken in the privacy of your suite, along with healing massages, hot stone treatments and rejuvenating facials. Enhance your feeling of wellbeing with a private yoga session in the privacy of your suite, or outside with nature or switch off completely with a private mediation session. There’s also a fabulous outdoor pool.

Climate

September to April is the spring/summer/early autumn period in New South Wales with high temperatures likely during the height of the season. Compared to northern Europe, winter months can be pleasant too, with warm days and fresh, cool evenings a common factor.
