Highlights

Fuji-Hakone-Izu is all about connecting with the outdoors, exploring on foot or by bike, enjoying an aerial view from a ropeway cablecar or visiting one of the area’s inspiring open air galleries.

Volcanic Lakes

The lakes around Mount Fuji formed by long gone eruptions today display nature at its most serene. Trails around the caldera edges of lakes such as Kawaguchi, Yamanaka and Ashinoko make for stunning hikes with Shinto shrines, birdsong, and colours that change with the seasons.

Onsen Hot springs

Onsen Hot springs

One of the best places in Japan to enjoy the natural phenomenon of hot spring bathing, and soak in the health giving minerals of the earth. Options include family friendly or couples bathing, heritage baths, and night bathing under the stars.

Mount Fuji

At 3,776 metres, Fuji is Japan’s tallest mountain, its iconic peak snow-capped much of the year. The best views are doubtless from afar, perhaps onboard a boat sailing across one of the area’s famed lakes. Fuji enjoys an appeal of mystery, often shrouded in cloud. For the best chances, try early morning or evening when the skies are at their clearest.
