Holidays to Rajasthan and North West India with If Only

Head west from Delhi and watch the landscape change; green fields, crops and bullock carts make way to desert and camels. Visit the Brahmin blue city of Jodhpur, carefully watched over by the impressive Mehrangarh Fort. Contrast this with the romance of the lake city of Udaipur, where Lake Pichola shimmers, juxtaposing the vibrancy of ancient markets and bazaars.

Highlights

Historic forts and grand palaces combine with colourful local dress. A chance to see the India as always imagined.

Tranquil Lake Pichola

The Lake Palace, set in the heart of Lake Pichola, encompasses all the romance of this beautiful city. Built in the 1700's, its walls are made of black and white marble and are adorned by semi-precious stones and ornamented niches. Gardens, fountains, pillared terraces and columns line its courtyards. Towering over the lake and the balconies, the cupolas and towers of the palace give a wonderful view of the lake and the surrounding city. Further afield, the Monsoon Palace is perched on the top of Bansdara Mountain; this hunting lodge is an iconic sight on the Udaipur skyline and a great vantage spot from which to view the city below.

The Blue City

The Blue City

Jodhpur, the second largest city in Rajasthan, is popularly known as the Blue City. The name is clearly befitting as most of the architecture – forts, palaces, temples, havelis and even houses are built in vivid shades of blue. The forts that tower this magnificent city are a spectacle not to be missed. The mammoth, imposing fortress of Mehrangarh dominates a rocky ridge.
