Food, indeed, is a big part of travel and luckily, mouthwatering cuisine is something Barbados certainly does not lack. Due to Barbados' rich cultural history, Bajan cuisine is a mix of many world flavours, with European, African and even Indian influences all combining to create a food scene that is bursting with flavour. There are many different types of food to try during your trip - locally caught fish, home-grown grass-fed meats, sweet plantains, macaroni pie (you can see just how diverse Bajan cuisine is!) among many more. Barbados is often referred to as "The Land of the Flying Fish", so it is not surprising that the national dish is flying fish with cou cou. It would be a crime to travel to Barbados and not try this delicious national fish which can be served fried, steamed or pickled, each of which are equally as delicious. From waterside shacks with fish cutters (the Bajan take on a sandwich) on the menu to elegant fine-dining restaurants, there is something to suit every taste and occasion in Barbados.
