Australasia

Australasia is a truly magical destination full of diverse contrasts, ensuring there is something for everyone. From the Great Barrier Reef and the dusty outback in Australia to the idyllic sun-kissed islands of Fiji, Australasia will not disappoint. Here at If Only, we are lucky to not only sell amazing holidays, but have a knowledgeable team who have first-hand experiences of the destinations we offer. Read on to hear all about our recent travels which we promise will give you some invaluable advice!

Queensland & The Red Centre - Thomas Innes, Tailormade Reservations Specialist

Thomas was lucky enough to spend time in Queensland and the Northern Territory and has shared his highlights of the trip below.

“Silky Oaks Lodge was a really special property and especially ideal for honeymooners. We had lunch here and it was one of the best meals of the trip!

I would highly recommend for almost anyone with an interest in nature and wildlife to do the Full Day Atherton Tablelands tour with FNQ Nature Tours. On this tour we were guided by the owner of the company, James, and he really made the experience. Guides are a wealth of knowledge and the flora and fauna inside out so animal spotting is almost guaranteed.

The Skyrail from Cairns to Kuranda is a fantastic experience for all clients of all ages (even suitable for clients with mobility issues). I’d definitely allow a full day to do this to be able to explore Kuranda (have lunch and visit the butterfly sanctuary) and then get the train back to Cairns.”

Western Australia - Anoushka Mascarenhas, Tailormade Reservations Specialist

Another one of our reservations specialists who has recently visited Australia is Anoushka who travelled around Western Australia visiting Mandurah, Margaret River, Yallingup, Busselton, Rockingham, Rottnest Island, and Perth.

“A highlight of my trip was the Adventure Rottnest Boat Tour experience on Rottnest Island, the guides on this trip were excellent and I got some amazing photos.

In Margaret River we visited the Swings & Roundabouts winery where we enjoyed a tasting session followed by a walk around the property and a lunch outside with views of the vineyard. Italian wood fired pizzas along with other sharing plates were served. The host/sommelier would come around with a selection of red and white wines to pair it with the food. This winery has a very casual, relaxed and welcoming vibe. I would highly recommend for families with young children as there is a separate play area outside.

Also those interesting in art, architecture and history should definitely take part in the Perth City Walking Tour, organised with Two Feet & a Heartbeat Walking Tours.”

Western Australia - Caroline Shields, Tailormade Reservations Specialist

Caroline also visited Western Australia and she has plenty of recommendations for those wishing to visit!

The best beach on Rottnest Island is Pinky’s Beach which is beside Discovery Resorts and has luxury glamping tents.

Be sure to stop in Busselton on the way to Margaret River as they have the Busselton Jetty which is the longest jetty in the southern hemisphere and they have a train you can get along it to the underwater observatory which was really fun and great for kids!

If you’re visiting Broome I would definitely recommend the Scenic and Prehistoric Cruise with Broome Adventures. Start your 7am adventure with an expresso martini and then go on the boat tour to see dinosaur footprints and then have sparkling wine and food while floating down the river.”

New Zealand's North Island - Cailtin McAvoy, Australasia Product Manager

Of course, Australia isn’t the only place in Australasia worth a visit. With a varied landscape of incredible mountains, glaciers, volcanoes, rivers and fiords, New Zealand creates the perfect setting for a luxury touring holiday. Our product manager Caitlin has recently returned from New Zealand’s North Island and has shared with us her top tips.

If time allows, start your journey in the beautiful Bay of Islands. The scenery is stunning, and a visit to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds is a must for anyone interested in New Zealand’s cultural history — a guided tour here really brings it to life.

I’d recommend including a visit to Hobbiton, even if you’re not a huge Lord of the Rings fan. The movie set is a magical and picturesque place to explore, and you can now even step inside a Hobbit Hole. It’s a fun and unique experience that adds something special to your trip.

Also make sure to spend a couple of nights in Rotorua — packed with geothermal wonders, Maori cultural tours, ziplining, fantastic dining on Eat Street, and allow some time to unwind at the Hot Springs and Spa.

Fiji - Ian Collins, Tailormade Reservations Specialist

Fiji is a true tropical paradise home to lush rainforests, towering mountains, pristine sand beaches and colourful coral reefs. This is a place where you appreciate the simple pleasures of life and Ian had the chance to experience this first-hand!

“Fiji is renowned for its friendliness, its people are what makes the place so fantastic. It is well worth travelling beyond Viti Levu to experience not only the people but the variety of landscape and cultural differences to fully appreciate what makes Fiji so magical.

Tokoriki Island Resort - It was impossible to find any fault with this resort, friendly but well managed, perfectly manicured tropical gardens, great facilities, fantastic service, beautiful island setting and spectacular rooms.

Captain Cook Cruises - This is a great way to take in a number of island in a different regions over a short period of time. The usual Fijian hospitality is present and is the closest thing to All Inclusive in Fiji with all meals, drinks during meals and all shore excursions included. “
