Holidays to Madikwe & the Kalahari with If Only

Located just south of Botswana, Madikwe has a real authentic feel. It is here where you can simply sit and take in a transformative, mesmeric sunset over the dry bushland horizon that expands for as far as the eye can see. The dramatic calm and quiet of the wilderness inspires a peacefulness that soothes any inner chatter as you watch the pastel sky bring the African evening to a close with a spectacular series of hues and shapes.

Highlights

The fifth argest reserve in South Africa and one of the lesser known safari destinations, with so much to offer.

The Big Five

Madikwe game reserve is a prime destination to spot any of The Big Five (rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, elephant) in their own kingdom. When visiting, it really does feel like you’re visiting their world. But of course when you return to your luxurious abode for the night that pendulum surely swings in your favour. Nevertheless, Madikwe is one of the few places where both springbok and Kalahari gemsbok can be found in the same territory along with hyena, aardwolf and meerkats.

The Kalahari Desert

The Kalahari Desert

Of course, there are few places in the world with such a primitive and wild character than that of the Kalahari desert. The Kalahari desert is the second largest desert in Africa and spans parts of Namibia, Botswana and South Africa. With such an intense climate, it is only the most exotic and wondrous of animals that roam these lands including wildebeest, springbok and other curious creatures such as duiker, eland and kudu.

Sustainable Travel

The park offers a choice of luxury and eco lodges in a malaria-free zone and the number of visitors in the park is limited to those staying within the reserves lodges as day visitors are not permitted.
